How to easily measure your ring size at home

Determining your ring size is a simple and straightforward procedure to help you shop for a new ring. If you don’t have a professional ring sizer, don’t worry, we offer you a few easy methods that you can use at home with just a few common items.

Before you begin: grab a ruler for the best measurement. Don’t have a ruler? Download a ruler app, for example Super Tools (iOS), Ruler – Smart Tools (Android).

Method 1: you have an existing ring that fits you well
Method 2: you have a ruler and a piece of paper

Method 1: Measuring with a ring that fits
If you already own a ring that fits the finger you’re buying for, you’re in luck! Here’s how to find out your ring size:

  1. Place the ring on a ruler.
  2. Measure the inside(!) diameter of the ring in millimeters or inches.
    If you measure in millimeters: the inside diameter is your ring size. For example, if the diameter is 18mm, your ring size is 18.
    If you measure in inches: Find the closest size in inches in the ring size table

Method 2: Measuring with a piece of paper or piece of string
Don’t have a ring to measure? No problem! Here’s how you can use a piece of paper:

  1. Cut out a paper strip about 10cm (4 inches) long and about 1cm (1/2 inch) wide
  2. Fold the strip around the knuckle of your finger (this is the widest part of your finger)
  3. Draw a line on the strip at the part where the two ends meet
  4. Measure the length of the piece of paper
  5. Use the table below and find the length of the marked piece of paper in the “circumference” column

or using a non-elastic(!) piece of string:

  1. Wrap the piece of string around the knuckle of your finger (this is the widest part of your finger)
  2. Cut or hold the string at this point
  3. Measure the length of this string segment with a ruler in millimeters or inches
  4. Use the table below and find the length of the marked piece of paper in the “circumference” column

Method 3: Measuring with our official ring sizer
Ok, so maybe you need a professional ring sizer after all. If you have no existing ring to use for measuring, and can’t find a suitable piece of string, no worries, just use our ring sizer, it’s always handy to have ready anyway.

  1. Insert the end of the Ring Sizer through the buckle (like a belt) to create a ring shape.
  2. Slide the Ring Sizer onto your finger. Adjust the size for a comfortable fit and check that the Ring Sizer slides smoothly over the phalanx of your finger.
  3. Read your ring size when you have achieved the correct fit.

Method 4: visit your local jeweler
If none of the above methods are available to you, visit your local jeweler for the most precise measurement.

IMPORTANT: If you fall exactly between two sizes, always choose the slightly larger size. It is always better for the ring to be slightly too big (but not slip off) than not fit at all.
